Ingredients
- 1 box (15.25 oz) cherry chip cake mix
- 1 cup cherry pie filling
- 1/2 cup sour cream
- 1/2 cup vegetable oil
- 3 large eggs
- 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
- 1 teaspoon almond extract (optional)
- Powdered sugar for dusting (optional)
- Vanilla ice cream for serving (optional)
Preparation
- Prepare the Crock Pot: Grease the inside of your slow cooker with cooking spray or butter to prevent sticking.
- Combine Cake Mix and Wet Ingredients: In a large bowl, mix together the cherry chip cake mix, cherry pie filling, sour cream, vegetable oil, and eggs. Stir until well combined. If using, add almond extract for an extra layer of flavor.
- Add Chocolate Chips: Gently fold in the chocolate chips into the cake batter.
- Transfer to Slow Cooker: Pour the batter into the prepared slow cooker, spreading it evenly.
- Cook on Low: Cover the slow cooker with the lid and cook on the low setting for 2.5 to 3 hours or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
- Cool and Dust with Powdered Sugar (Optional): Once the cake is done, turn off the slow cooker and let it cool for a few minutes. If desired, dust the top of the cake with powdered sugar for a decorative touch.
- Serve: Spoon the warm Cherry Chip Cake into bowls or onto plates.
- Optional Serving: Serve the cake on its own or with a scoop of vanilla ice cream for an extra indulgent treat.
