Celebrate the holidays with these classic Gingerbread Cookies. Full of warm spices and molasses, these cookies are perfect for decorating and sharing with loved ones.
Notes:
For best results, chill the dough for at least 1 hour before rolling it out. Decorate with royal icing and candies for a festive touch.
Ingredients:
- 3 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tsp baking soda
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 2 tsp ground ginger
- 1 tsp ground cinnamon
- 1/2 tsp ground cloves
- 1/2 tsp ground nutmeg
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 3/4 cup brown sugar
- 1 large egg
- 1/2 cup molasses
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
Instructions:
- In a large bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, salt, ginger, cinnamon, cloves, and nutmeg.
- In another bowl, cream butter and brown sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in egg, molasses, and vanilla extract.
- Gradually add dry ingredients to wet ingredients and mix until combined.
- Divide dough into two discs, wrap in plastic wrap, and chill for at least 1 hour.
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and line baking sheets with parchment paper.
- Roll out dough on a lightly floured surface to 1/4 inch thickness. Cut into shapes with cookie cutters.
- Place cookies on prepared baking sheets and bake for 8-10 minutes, or until edges are firm.
- Allow cookies to cool on a wire rack before decorating.
