1pound 1 fresh green beans, trimmed and cut into 1-2 inch pieces (or 2 cans of green beans, drained)
1can condensed cream of mushroom soup (10.5 oz)
1/2cup milk
1tsp soy sauce (optional, for extra depth of flavor)
1/4tsp black pepper
1 1/3cups crispy fried onions (store-bought or homemade)
Instructions
1
Prepare the Green Beans
2
If using fresh green beans, blanch them in boiling water for about 3-5 minutes until bright green and slightly tender. Drain and transfer them to an ice bath to stop the cooking. Drain well and set aside.
3
Make the Sauce
4
In a mixing bowl, combine the cream of mushroom soup, milk, soy sauce (if using), and black pepper. Stir until smooth.
5
Assemble the Casserole
6
In a large mixing bowl, combine the green beans and half of the crispy fried onions. Pour the mushroom sauce over the mixture and toss until everything is evenly coated.
7
Bake the Casserole
8
Transfer the mixture to a 9x9-inch (or similar-sized) baking dish. Bake in a preheated oven at 350°F (175°C) for 25 minutes.
9
Add the Crispy Topping
10
Remove the casserole from the oven and sprinkle the remaining crispy fried onions on top. Return to the oven and bake for another 5-10 minutes or until the onions are golden and the casserole is bubbly.
11
Serve and Enjoy
12
Serve warm as a side dish. The casserole should be creamy with a crunchy onion topping.
