Ingredients
- 3 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed
- 1 cup whole milk
- 2 tablespoons Earl Grey tea leaves (loose or removed from tea bags)
- Zest of 1 orange
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Preparation
- Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
- Cut in the cold butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- Steep the Earl Grey tea leaves in the milk for 5 minutes, then strain.
- Add the infused milk, orange zest, and vanilla extract to the dry ingredients. Mix until just combined.
- Turn the dough onto a floured surface, knead briefly, and pat into a 1-inch thick circle.
- Cut out scones using a round cutter and place them on the prepared baking sheet.
- Bake for 15-18 minutes or until golden brown.
